Very common in older Sydney apartment blocks near UNSW, USYD and UTS. Same as FTTN from your unit's point of view — you plug into a phone-style wall jack, and your router needs a VDSL modem built in (this is why Australia sells “modem router” combo units that don't really exist in this form in China).

Older apartments often have 2–3 phone points around the unit, but only one is wired through to the building's active line — plugging into the wrong one gives you nothing. We test every socket with a proper line tester rather than guessing. We've also traced repeated random disconnections in FTTB buildings to an ISP-side speed-boost upgrade (100M→500M) that wasn't fully configured on their end — not a fault the tenant could have caused or fixed themselves.

A 1-bedroom apartment near UTS on a new Origin Energy 100Mbps FTTB plan was fully activated, tested and wired to the desktop in under 30 minutes. Separately, a student on Waterloo's McEvoy Street bought a second-hand router that showed no DSL light on any socket in the unit — we confirmed with our own test router that the fault was on Superloop's external line, not the router, and pre-configured everything so it connected instantly once the ISP fixed the line the next day.
