Look for a small white or grey NBN Connection Box (the “NBN box”) mounted on an internal wall, often near the meter box, a hallway cupboard, or — in a lot of newer apartments we've seen — awkwardly inside the fridge cavity or bedroom wardrobe. If there's a thin fibre cable (not a phone cable) running into it, you're on FTTP.

If the PON light is off or the LOS light is red, the fibre signal itself has dropped — usually an outage or a damaged lead-in cable, not something a router restart will fix. We've also handled the aftermath of lightning strikes frying an NBN box's power adapter (the box itself is NBN Co's asset — never buy a replacement yourself, the ISP replaces it free once you report storm damage).
