A student moving into a new apartment in Mascot wanted the whole thing handled end to end: which provider to pick, getting the line activated, installing the router, and making sure every device was fast. They went with an Aussie Broadband (ABB) gigabit (1000 Mbps) plan. On the very first wired speed test we only saw about 100 Mbps — not because of ABB, but because of an old 100M Ethernet cable that was already run in the room.

A connection is only as fast as its slowest link. The plan, the modem and the router were all gigabit — but one old 100M (Fast Ethernet) cable already run in the room capped every device behind it at ~100. Swapping in a gigabit (Cat5e/Cat6) cable removed the ceiling.一条链路的速度 = 最慢那一环。套餐、光猫、路由器都是千兆——但房间里原本布好的一根 百兆（Fast Ethernet）网线 把它后面所有设备都卡在了 ~100。换成千兆（Cat5e/Cat6）网线，天花板就消失了。

People upgrade the plan and the router, but forget the cable. In a new build the wall ports look identical whether the run behind them is gigabit or an old 100M cable. Here the ABB line, the modem and the router were all gigabit-capable; the single weak link was a 100M patch cable already sitting in the room. No plan or router upgrade can push past a 100M cable — you have to replace the cable itself.

很多人升级了套餐、换了路由器，却忘了网线。新房子里，墙上的网口看起来都一样，但背后可能是千兆线、也可能是一根旧百兆线。这里 ABB 线路、光猫、路由器都支持千兆，唯一的弱环就是房间里那根百兆网线。套餐和路由器升得再高，也过不了一根百兆线——只能把线本身换掉。

The method is the same every time: test each link with gear you know is good, and change one thing at a time.

Router and modem were gigabit-capable, so the line and hardware were not the cap.
First wired test at the desk was only ~100M — a classic 100M-cable or 100M-port signature.
Swapped the room cable for a gigabit one — wired speed jumped to ~1000M.
Connected the desktop and TV, then checked WiFi in the other rooms for coverage.

方法每次都一样：用你确定没问题的设备逐环节测，每次只改一个变量。

相信墙里那段线之前，先看外皮是不是 Cat5e/Cat6。
随身备两根确定没问题的千兆网线用来对比测试。
判断网线是否卡速，一定要在墙口用有线测。

Result最终结果

Root cause: an old 100M Ethernet cable already run in the room, not Aussie Broadband. After swapping to a gigabit cable the same line delivered ~1000 Mbps wired, with the desktop and TV connected and stable — about a 10× jump with no plan change.

根因：房间里原本布好的一根旧百兆网线，不是 Aussie Broadband。换成千兆网线后，同一条线路有线跑到 ~1000 兆，台式机和电视都接好、稳定运行——套餐没动，速度提升约 10 倍。
