A customer near Chinatown called because the internet had suddenly stopped. The larger finding came after the immediate cabling problem was corrected: the NETGEAR router was still configured for a former tenant’s Harbour service, while the customer’s own Aussie Broadband gigabit account had recorded zero traffic for almost three months.
A router showing “online” does not prove it is using the service you pay for. Provider name, connection type and account-usage data have to agree.
| Check | What to verify | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Router account | Provider name and connection method match the activation email | Confirms the router is using your service |
| Provider app | Upload/download usage begins after setup | Independent evidence the account is carrying traffic |
| Speed test | Wired or suitable-device result is consistent with the plan | Flags a wrong port, cable, router or configuration early |
The ABB gigabit service was finally placed into use after almost three months of zero recorded traffic. Correct dynamic-IP settings and the customer’s Huawei WiFi 7 router produced a peak test of 1.1 Gbps, up from 44 Mbps, and the WiFi credentials and wired TV connection were completed before handover.
