A Sydney student on a Superloop plan had their Xiaomi router working fine: one cable from the modem into the router, PPPoE dialled up, WiFi and internet all normal. The trouble started when they ran a second cable from the router to a wall socket, hoping to bring the living-room wall port to life — the moment that cable went in, the router lost its connection and the whole flat went offline. The cause was not a fault: this router has four ports that auto-detect whether each one is WAN (uplink) or LAN, and the extra cable confused that detection.

With one uplink cable the router knew which port was WAN. Adding a second cable into a wall socket gave it two candidate uplinks, and because the ports self-assign WAN/LAN, it re-negotiated the wrong port and dropped the real uplink — so every device lost internet, even though nothing was actually broken.只有一根上联线时,路由器清楚哪个口是 WAN。多插一根到墙口后,它有了两个“疑似上联”,而这些口是自己判定 WAN/LAN 的,于是它把错误的口当成了 WAN、丢掉了真正的上联——结果全屋设备都没网了,其实哪儿都没坏。

“Auto-sensing” ports (sometimes labelled self-adaptive or blind ports) are a convenience feature: you can plug the incoming line into any port and the router figures out the rest. That is great until there is more than one live cable in play.
- One cable from the modem → the router correctly picks that port as WAN. Everything works.
- Add a cable from another port into a wall socket → the router now sees two possible uplinks and can re-assign WAN to the wrong one, or loop itself, and the real uplink drops.
- Nothing is faulty — the router, the line and the plan are all fine. It is purely the port role that got confused.
“自动识别”口(有的叫自适应口、盲插口)是个便利功能:进线随便插哪个口,路由器自己判断。可一旦同时有不止一根活线,麻烦就来了。
- 只有光猫出来的一根线 → 路由器正确把那个口当 WAN,一切正常。
- 又从另一个口拉一根线到墙口 → 路由器现在看到两个“可能的上联”,可能把 WAN 判到错的口上、甚至自己成环,真正的上联就断了。
- 其实没有任何东西坏——路由器、线路、套餐都好,纯粹是口的角色被搞混了。

If you are not confident configuring a router, a model with a clearly fixed WAN port is the safer buy — fewer unknown failure modes. And when you want a wall port live, run the cable from a LAN port to the wall, keep only one real uplink, and power-cycle after any change so the roles settle.
如果你对配置路由器没把握,买一台 WAN 口明确固定的会更省心——未知故障更少。想点亮某个墙口时,用LAN口拉线到墙上、始终只保留一条真正的上联,改动后记得断电重启让角色稳定下来。
Result最终结果
Root cause: the router's auto-sensing ports re-assigned WAN to the wrong port when a second cable was added, dropping the uplink — not Superloop, not a hardware fault. After changing the port/socket combination and power-cycling, WiFi and the wired living-room port both ran normally.
根因:加第二根线时,路由器的自动识别口把 WAN 判到了错误的口上、丢掉了上联——不是 Superloop、也不是硬件坏。换了插口/墙口组合并断电重启后,WiFi 和客厅有线网口都恢复正常。
