New NETGEAR Nighthawk, Reset but Still Offline near Green Square: Set the Admin Password Before It Will Configure (Superloop 100M, PPPoE)

Student · Green SquareSuperloop 100MNETGEAR NighthawkPPPoE dial-upReset ≠ configuredOnline at 100 Mbps

A student near Green Square on a Superloop 100M plan had a new NETGEAR Nighthawk that still wouldn’t go online, even though they’d reset it. The account was active and the line was fine. The catch was the router itself: this Nighthawk makes you create an admin login password before it will let you configure the internet connection at all — and that step had never been done.

How we brought it online
1
Confirmed the account was active
Superloop plan live
2
Checked the modem/ONT lights
Line OK → not the connection
3
Logged into the new Nighthawk
Reset, but never set up before
4
Set the admin password it demanded
Only then could we configure PPPoE
5
Entered PPPoE, tested speed
Online, full 100 Mbps, WiFi renamed

A reset is not a setup

“I already reset it” is one of the most common things we hear — and it’s often true, but incomplete. A factory reset only clears the router back to default; it doesn’t enter your login details. On this Nighthawk you literally can’t reach the connection settings until you’ve set the device admin password first.

Two things worth remembering. First, higher-end routers like the Nighthawk push you toward a long, complex admin password (often 10+ mixed characters, plus security questions) — easy to forget later, so write it down somewhere safe. Second, a customer’s description is a starting point, not the diagnosis: “I reset it” was true, but the connection was never configured. We confirm with our own eyes before deciding what’s wrong.
Result

Root cause: the new NETGEAR Nighthawk was reset but never set up — it demands an admin login password before you can configure the internet connection. Setting that, then entering the Superloop PPPoE login, brought it online at the full 100 Mbps. The account and line were fine all along.
