Mesh networks are easy to live with and hard to repair. When one of them fails and the owner has already removed it from the app, there is no configuration left to inspect — the only honest option is to rebuild the whole thing from the ground up. That is what this job was: three floors, five Deco nodes, a switch, more than twenty devices, and five hours on site.

Mesh网络用起来省心，坏起来难修。一旦出故障、而且房主已经在APP里把整个组网删掉了，就没有任何配置可查——唯一诚实的做法就是从头重建一遍。这单活就是这样：三层楼、五台Deco、一台交换机、二十多台联网设备，现场做了五个小时。

The house is a three-storey detached property in a residential estate in central Kuala Lumpur.

Five TP-Link Deco mesh units and one five-port TP-Link switch were already installed, plus the router supplied by the provider.
More than twenty devices are connected day to day — phones and laptops, but also cameras, smart home devices and sensors.
The existing mesh had stopped working for reasons nobody could reconstruct, and the owner had already deleted the network from the app.
The brief was to build it again, and to retire the provider-supplied router so the whole house ran on Deco.

The order matters more than people expect. The primary network has to live on the main Deco node before the other units are added, otherwise each node is trying to join a network that does not exist yet. Reset first, migrate the primary, then add nodes one at a time and test each one.顺序比大多数人以为的更重要。必须先把主网络迁到作为主路由的那台Deco上，再去加其余节点，否则每台节点都在尝试加入一个还不存在的网络。先重置、再迁主网络、然后一台一台加入并逐台测试。

Most of the time went into the first step, not the last one.

The existing cabling, devices and account details were complex enough that they had to be understood before anything was touched.
Once the primary network was on the main Deco node, the other four could be reset and added.
Each node was tested where it would actually live, not on the bench, because a node that pairs next to the main unit may not hold once it is carried up a floor.
By the end the Deco app showed a complete network map with every node and every connected device.

现场原有的线路、设备和账号情况足够复杂，必须先花时间消化理解，才动手。
主网络转移到作为主路由的Deco之后，其余4台才能重置并加入。
每台节点都是在它最终摆放的位置上测试，而不是在主机旁边测——挨着主机能配上，搬上一层楼未必还稳。

What to do if your own mesh keeps dropping

如果你家的Mesh也总是掉线，可以怎么做

Mesh faults are genuinely hard to diagnose, and that is not your imagination.

A mesh problem usually only gets diagnosed if you can reproduce it under known conditions. If it has stopped being reproducible, there is very little to work with.
If devices still drop off occasionally and nothing reproduces, rebuilding the mesh from scratch is a reasonable next step rather than a last resort.
Before you delete the existing network, write down the connection details and the account information. Deleting it removes the evidence as well as the fault.
Give a whole-house rebuild real time. Three floors with five nodes and twenty-plus devices took five hours, and rushing the node-by-node testing is what creates the next fault.

Mesh类故障确实难排查，这不是你的错觉。

Mesh故障通常需要在可复现的条件下才好定位。如果已经无法复现，能抓的线索就非常少。
如果偶尔还是有设备掉线、连不上WiFi，而又复现不了，那么重新组网是一个合理的下一步，不必等到万不得已。
在删掉现有组网之前，先把联网方式和账号信息记下来。删除组网的同时也删掉了排查用的证据。
全屋重建要留足时间。三层楼、五个节点、二十多台设备用了五个小时，逐台测试这一环赶时间，往往就是下一次故障的来源。

Result最终结果

Root cause: the previous mesh had failed and had already been deleted from the app, so there was no configuration left to repair. We migrated the primary network onto a TP-Link Deco main node, retired the provider-supplied router, factory-reset the remaining four Deco units and re-added them one at a time, testing each in its final position on each floor. After about five hours the Deco app showed a complete network map, and the switch and the twenty-plus wired and wireless devices were all back online.

根因是原有组网已经故障、并且已经在APP里被删除，没有任何配置可以修复。我们把主网络迁移到一台TP-Link Deco主节点上，停用了运营商赠送的路由器，把其余4台Deco恢复出厂后逐台重新加入，并且在每层楼的最终摆放位置上逐台测试。约五个小时后，Deco的APP上可以看到完整的网络地图，交换机与二十多台有线无线设备全部恢复在线。
