A student moving to Waterloo messaged us two weeks before flying to Sydney and booked an internet setup for their landing day. They had already bought a gaming router in an Australian store — an octopus-styled unit with multiple LAN ports, the kind serious players like. Most people only start sorting out internet after they arrive, then spend their first days on hotspot data. This student did it the other way round: reached out two weeks early, agreed on a landing-day time, and we showed up with everything needed. The router was their own — we handled placement, cabling into the HFC box, configuration and testing.

This building connects through an HFC box rather than full fibre, so speed can vary a little. On the day it still tested around 900 Mbps — the router was not the limit here.这栋楼不是全光纤，走的是 HFC 盒子，速度会有些波动。但当天实测仍有约 900 兆——这一次路由器完全不是瓶颈。

The building connects through an HFC box (the NBN type that runs over coax into the unit), which in our experience can be a little less steady than full fibre. On the day, wired testing came in around 900 Mbps.

The gaming router’s multiple LAN ports mean a desktop and console can both run wired.
~900 Mbps with stable configuration is comfortably enough for daily gaming.
If speeds ever swing on HFC, test wired first so you know whether it is the line or the WiFi.
