It's the most frustrating sentence in Australian broadband: your ISP runs a remote test, sees a healthy line to your NBN box, and closes the ticket. The internet is still broken — but now it's officially your problem. Here's what that sentence really means, what a private technician tests that the ISP can't, and how the visit usually ends.

Your provider's remote diagnostics reach exactly as far as the NBN network boundary — the connection box or first wall socket. Everything past it is legally your side: internal wiring, sockets, the modem, the router, WiFi, and every device. When they say “the fault isn't on our network”, they mean their tests to that boundary came back clean. It says nothing about the half of the chain they can't see — and in our experience roughly half of persistent faults live in exactly that blind spot.

The frustrating part: they're often right that it's not their network — and simultaneously wrong that everything is fine. An intermittent in-wall cabling fault, a dying modem, or brutal WiFi interference will all pass a remote line test.

Test at the boundary first. We plug a known-good router directly into the NBN connection point and measure. If the fault reproduces there, it IS the network — and now there's independent evidence the ISP can't dismiss.

先测分界点。把一台确认正常的路由器直接接到 NBN 接入点上测量。如果故障在这里就能复现,那就真是网络问题 — 而且现在有了运营商无法否认的独立证据。

Read the modem's line statistics. Sync history, error counters, attenuation and noise margin tell a story remote tests summarise away — 14 resyncs overnight is a smoking gun even when the line looks 'fine' right now.

读光猫的线路统计。同步历史、错误计数、衰减和噪声容限讲述的细节,远程测试一笔带过 — 一夜重同步 14 次就是铁证,哪怕此刻线路看着「正常」。

Inspect the physical path. Wall sockets, joints, visible cable runs, the state of the weak-current box. Corrosion, moisture and DIY splices from previous tenants are found by eyes and testers, not by software.

检查物理路径。墙口、接头、可见线路、弱电箱状况。氧化、受潮、前租客的野路子接线,靠眼睛和测试仪发现,软件查不出来。

Eliminate the equipment. Swap-test the modem and router with known-good units. Ten minutes of swap-testing settles what hours of phone support never will.

排除设备嫌疑。用确认正常的光猫路由器做交叉替换测试。十分钟的替换测试,能解决电话客服几小时解决不了的争论。

Separate WiFi from everything else. Cable-test every symptom. A huge share of 'internet faults' are WiFi faults wearing a disguise — fixable the same visit, no ISP required.

把 WiFi 和其他一切分开。所有症状都用有线复测。大量「网络故障」其实是 WiFi 故障在伪装 — 当次上门就能修,根本不用找运营商。

Document whatever remains. If the fault survives all of the above, it's network-side by elimination — and you now hold timestamped measurements, photos and line stats that force a real escalation instead of another reboot script.

把剩下的写成证据。如果以上全部排除后故障仍在,那按排除法就在网络侧 — 而你手里已经有了带时间戳的测量数据、照片和线路参数,足以逼出真正的升级处理,而不是又一轮重启话术。

Most jobs end one of two ways, both good: either the fault was on your side and it's simply fixed — modem replaced, socket repaired with our partnered ACMA-registered cablers, WiFi rebuilt — or the fault is proven network-side and your ISP receives a report it has to act on. We make that call with you or for you, in English. What never happens: you paying for a repair that didn't occur. If nothing on your side needs fixing, you pay for diagnosis and evidence only.

If the fault is real and persistent, yes — the ISP has structurally stopped looking. An independent visit either fixes the inside fault directly or produces the evidence that reopens the ticket with force.

Fixed cabling past the first socket legally requires an ACMA-registered cabler. Device-side work doesn't. Our cabling repairs are carried out with partnered ACMA-registered cablers, so both halves are covered in one visit.
