The request that came in was “the main router is in the living room, the bedroom signal is bad, I want to add a router in the bedroom”. That instinct is right about the symptom and wrong about the fix. There was only one wall port between the two rooms, and it ran one way only. Adding a second router in the bedroom would have had nothing to plug into. The building's fibre infrastructure here is Redtrain, with Occom as the provider.

找过来的诉求是“主路由在客厅，卧室信号不好，想在卧室再加一台路由器”。这个直觉对症状判断没错，但解法错了。两个房间之间只有一个墙上网口，而且只能单向走线，在卧室再加一台路由器根本没有东西可以接。这栋楼的光纤设施供应商是 Redtrain，运营商是 Occom。

The incoming line was in the bedroom, but the router had been carried out to the living room through the one wall port linking the two rooms. That single port was already used up carrying the connection out of the bedroom, so there was no second cable path to bring a wired backhaul back in. The bedroom, where the person actually is, ended up furthest from the router in the flat.宽带进线本来就在卧室，但路由器被通过连接两个房间的那个唯一墙口，挪到了客厅。这个唯一的口已经被“把网络送出卧室”占用了，再没有第二条线可以把有线回程接回来。结果是人真正待着的卧室，反而离路由器最远。

Put the main router where the line comes in, not where it looks tidy

Most weak-signal complaints in flats are a placement problem before they are an equipment problem.

Work out which room the incoming line actually arrives in. That room is the cheapest place to have strong WiFi.
Count the wall ports between rooms. One port means one wired path, and that path can only run in one direction.
A second router is only worth adding if you can feed it over a cable. Wireless-repeating it into a weak corner rarely helps as much as people expect.
If you spend most of your time in the bedroom, that is where the main router belongs — even if the living room looks like the more natural spot.

Two notes from this job that apply beyond this flat:

Newer buildings are not always served by NBN or Opticomm. Here the fibre infrastructure provider is Redtrain, which means far fewer retail providers to choose from, and pricing to match. Check this before you sign a lease if internet matters to you.
Where a modem is in bridge mode, usually only one of its LAN ports is available to feed the router that dials the connection. If the modem dials instead, more ports are usable — but most modems are not well suited to handling the connection themselves, so letting the router do it is normally the better setup.
Two routers of different models can still work together, as long as one of them is clearly the main one and the other is not trying to run the network as well.

这次上门有两点，出了这套房子也一样适用：

新楼盘的网络设施供应商不一定是 NBN 或 Opticomm。这里是 Redtrain，意味着可选的运营商非常少、价格也相应地不便宜。如果你很在意网络，签租约前最好先查清楚。
光猫如果是桥接模式，通常只有一个 LAN 口能用来接负责拨号的路由器；如果由光猫自己拨号，可用的口会多一些——但大部分光猫并不适合承担拨号，所以交给路由器通常是更好的做法。
两台不同型号的路由器一样可以配合工作，前提是其中一台明确是主路由，另一台不要同时也想去管理这个网络。

Result最终结果

Root cause: placement, not equipment. The incoming line arrived in the bedroom but the main router had been moved to the living room through the flat's only wall port, leaving no cable path for a wired backhaul and leaving the bedroom the weakest spot in the flat. Swapping the roles — main router in the bedroom on the incoming line, the second ASUS as a wired access point in the living room feeding the TV and set-top box — noticeably improved bedroom signal and speed with no new hardware bought.

根因是摆放，不是设备。宽带进线在卧室，主路由却被通过全屋唯一的墙口挪到了客厅，导致没有线路可以做有线回程，而卧室成了全屋信号最弱的地方。把主副角色对调——主路由回到卧室接在进线上，第二台华硕在客厅做有线中继并接上电视与电视盒子——卧室的信号与网速明显改善，且没有新买任何设备。
