Most of our jobs are faults. This one was the opposite: nothing was broken, the student simply did not want to spend the first fortnight in a new flat without internet. The message came in during the morning. By the afternoon there was a working WiFi network in the flat. It is worth breaking down, because the speed here came from sequencing, not from anything clever.

None of these steps is difficult on its own. What decides whether you get online today or in two weeks is whether they happen in this order and without a gap between them. In our experience the step that most often stalls a move is the last one: the plan is active but the router is still in the post, so the flat sits without internet waiting for a parcel. Enquiry in the morning, online the same afternoon. After matching a provider and plan to the address and budget, the Superloop 100 Mbps service was ordered and the activation email arrived quickly; we attended the property that afternoon with a TP-Link router, connected it to the wall socket on a service that obtains its address automatically, set the WiFi name and password, and tested on the student's own devices — a working home network on moving day rather than one to two weeks later.
