A student in Zetland on a Telstra 100Mbps DSL plan suddenly had no internet — the Telstra gateway’s lights were out and no WiFi showed up. It’s easy to blame the provider or the line. We brought a DSL-capable router on-site, plugged it into the same phone socket, and it was online in minutes — proving the line and plan were fine. The real fault was the Telstra gateway itself: it kept restarting on its own.

Quick clue快速判断If a second router gets online on the same line, the line is fine and the original box is the problem. Test wired where you can, and give a suspect gateway a stable power outlet — unstable power can shorten a router’s life.如果换一台路由器在同一条线上能联网,说明线路没问题、是原来的设备坏了。尽量用有线测试;给可疑的光猫接一个稳定的电源——电源不稳可能缩短路由器寿命。
Result最终结果

Root cause: the Telstra gateway had failed and was stuck rebooting — not the DSL line or the Telstra plan. We got the student back online the same visit on a DSL router and recommended replacing the dead gateway with a known-good unit on a stable power outlet.

根因:Telstra 光猫已损坏、卡在反复重启——不是 DSL 线路、也不是 Telstra 套餐。我们当场用 DSL 路由器帮同学恢复上网,并建议把坏掉的光猫换成一台确定可用、接稳定电源的路由器。
