Forget memorising FTTP/FTTN/FTTB/FTTC/HFC. Here's the simple, effective check that works every time: open any Australian ISP site (e.g. Superloop, Aussie Broadband or Telstra), enter the address you'll live at — the unit number can be a guess, the street address is what matters — and read the maximum speed it offers you.
- Shows up to 1000M / gigabit: your home is fibre-based, and your Chinese fibre router will work directly (cheap and good).
- Shows max ~100M only: that's a DSL (phone-line) connection — a China 光猫 won't work directly; you'll need a VDSL-capable modem-router.
Example address format: Unit 5, 6 Cowper Street, Glebe, NSW 2037. Any real street address at your suburb will do to see the ceiling.

On fibre: use it directly光纤：可直接用
If your address shows gigabit, your imported router plugs straight into the NBN box's UNI-D port (WAN), you enter any connection details from your activation email, and you're away. A modern Chinese fibre router (Xiaomi, Huawei, TP-Link, ASUS, etc.) is typically fine and often cheaper than buying local. Just double-check it supports your plan speed — a gigabit-capable router for a 1000M plan.

On DSL: what to doDSL：怎么办
If your address maxes at ~100M, you're on a phone-line (DSL) connection. A Chinese 光猫 usually can't connect to this directly, because it expects a fibre input, not a VDSL phone line. Your options:
- Buy a local VDSL2 modem-router as the main device (that's the one that plugs into the phone socket and does the modulation).
- Then keep your Chinese router as a second unit (see below) — it's not wasted.
如果你的地址最高约 100M，说明是电话线（DSL）接入。国内光猫通常无法直接连，因为它要的是光纤输入，而不是 VDSL 电话线。你的选择：
- 买一台本地 VDSL2 modem-router 做主设备（就是插电话口、负责调制解调的那台）。

Repurpose it as a mesh / bridge node当副路由 / 桥接
Even on a 100M DSL home, your Chinese router earns its place: run the Australian DSL modem-router as the main device, and set your Chinese router as a second router in mesh or wireless-bridge (WDS/AP) mode to extend WiFi into a far room. It's a great way to kill a dead spot without buying a new mesh kit.
就算是 100M 的 DSL 家庭，国内路由器也有用武之地：用澳洲的 DSL modem-router 做主设备，把国内路由器设成 副路由，走 Mesh 或无线桥接（WDS/AP）模式，把 WiFi 扩到远处房间。不用另买 Mesh 套装就能消灭死角。
